Sentara is hiring an experienced a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Labor & Delivery Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital, in Norfolk Virginia.

Shift: Part Time, Night Shift
Overview
Our Family Maternity Center is a busy, well-established unit with 16 labor rooms, 5 dedicated triage rooms, and 2 obstetric ORs. We average approximately 3,300 deliveries each year and cared for around 4,000 triage patients in 2025, making us the second-highest delivering hospital in the system, just behind SNGH.
We partner with four private OB practices, and we also have our own Sentara midwifery team that supports triage patients and is available 24/7. We follow AWHONN staffing guidelines as closely as possible, and when needed, leadership readily steps in to support the team and maintain safe, patient-centered care.
Culturally, we are very mom- and baby-friendly and pride ourselves on supporting each family's desired birth experience while balancing safety, evidence-based practice, and teamwork.

Job Description
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.

- Staff self-schedule on a 6-week schedule
- Work every 3rd weekend within their assigned package
- Two call shifts per schedule (one chosen during self-scheduling and the second selected after the schedule is balanced based on unit needs)
- Two holiday packages that alternate every other year
- Switches are allowed for weekdays, weekends, or holidays with advance planning
- Additional call opportunities are often available for those interested
